Ozark Star

Ozark Star
The rich brown reminds me of velvet.

I was excited that my good friend Barb Metcalf was moving back from to Arkansas in the summer of 2003 after many years in Nashville, Tennesse. But she was struggling with leaving her friends and family. So I decided to make this quilt to welcome her back.

I bought these fabrics at the then new shop Blossoms Quiltworks. They were so delightfully helpful and encouraging as I was just returning to quilting at the time. The pattern is called Christmas Star designed by Karen Costello Soltys and can be found in a book called Triangle Tricks by Sally Schneider. The lesson I learned while hand quilting the batik border: If your fabric is dark and busy the quilting is not going to show up. All that work making those beautiful oak leaves, and they can't be seen.
